THE ROUTE IS BEING RECALCULATED
From De Pont's Collection
02 June - 12 Sep 2020
Behind its closed doors De Pont is working on a major presentation of the collection titled THE ROUTE IS BEING RECALCULATED, to be introduced in phases as soon as the museum is allowed to open again. As the 'fleet' passes in review, the public will be reunited with known and lesser known works from De Pont's renowned collection.
The title is a playful reference to the words spoken by a car's navigation system when a unexpected turn has been taken. But also to the programmatic and practical measures that art institutions must take as a result of the Covid-19 crisis. Visitors will be finding their ways around museums within the new reality of social distancing. At De Pont that probably won't be take place according to a fixed walking route, but rather as in a park: navigating freely while taking the one-and-a-half-meter rule into consideration.
While rambling about the vast spaces of the former wool-spinning mill, visitors will encounter surprising dialogues among works by Rosemarie Trockel, Richard Long, Marlene Dumas, Bill Viola, Thomas Schutte and other favorites from the collection. New voices can be heard too: like those of Raphaela Vogel and Kara Walker. The collection presentation will unfold as a work in progress before the eyes of the public. Providing all goes as expected, the presentation will be fully installed by mid September.
