In 1996, when this sculpture came about, the dial telephone and the coal stove were already hopelessly old-fashioned. Geelen opted for 'prototypes' which had striking forms rather than the smooth, flatter models that are now in use. Together the individual elements can be interpreted as a three-dimensional still life.
In this work Geelen allows us to see the process of bronze-casting. Here the runners (channels for casting), inevitable remnants that are usually removed after solidification, are the 'veins' that keep the work alive.
The interior surface of the sculptural elements shows a raised texture. Using a brush, Geelen made Pollock-like drippings in the wax. This is one of the ways in which he refers to his sources of inspiration in art history.
