In this series of gigantic photomontages, the artist gives herself eccentric bat 'hats'. The playfulness of the surrealist self-portraits is characteristic of her approach. The artist likes to associate herself with the bat. She regards the nocturnal creature as the ultimate antihero. While in pop culture they are linked to horror and heavy metal, bats provide many positive ecological effects, like pollination and insect population control. The first collage of this series was initially intended as a portrait to accompany interviews and other press-related texts: an important means by which to create an identity as an artist.
