In Esko Männikkö’s work, the experience of time and transience plays a significant role. His distinctive ability to make time seem tangible leads to images that are marked by an exceptional use of light and color. It is therefore not surprising that his work is sometimes compared to that of the master painters from the history of art. The unique frames—homemade or found at the flea market—are an inherent part of the work, strengthening the bond between Männikkö’s photographs and (art) history, while also enhancing the sense of impermanence.
