Museum De Pont

ON VIEW

Through 5 July: Pictures from Another Wall

With Pictures from Another Wall photography museum Huis Marseille is celebrating its twentieth year by showing, at De Pont, roughly one hundred works from its collection. The blurring of boundaries within the discipline of photography is one of the perspectives of this exhibition, which focuses on acquisitions from the past five years. The digital revolution as well as the omnipresence of photography online and the return to analog practices have influence on the issue as to what photography is today. Furthermore, how should those new developments be dealt with in terms of a museum's collection? Pictures from Another Wall is an attempt to respond to this.

Through 3 May: Marijke De Roover

A realistic portrayal of someone using love as an escapist drug

Captivating, incisive, ironic, honest, camp and vocally flawless. This is how a musical performance by the Belgian artist Marijke De Roover (1990) could be characterized. Come and experience her video installation as of 15 February, or in combination with performances on 15 February, 14 March and 18 April. read more

Through 15 March: Monster Chetwynd, 'Toxic Pillows'

"With the panel paintings the artist captures the energy and expression of her performances in a permanent work. The work is humorous, extravagant, bizarre, alienating and theatrical. Added to this witches' brew are other (video) works that stem from her performances, which gives us the feeling that the show can start all over again at any given moment." (De kunstmeisjes) read more

Through 5 July: Marc Mulders

In connection with his upcoming publication
Marc Mulders, werken 1980 - 2020, De Pont is presenting a selection of work by this artist, who is represented in the collection with more than thirty works.
The book tells us, for the first time, the story of Mulders's development as an artist over a period of nearly forty years. The garden as a place of benevolence, an important source of inspiration for Mulders, is the book's underlying motif.
In this collection presentation, too, nature can be admired in all its stages of blossom and decay. read more

Introducing the new project space at De Pont: WOOL. The name alludes to the former Thomas de Beer wool-spinning mill in which the museum is housed. Raw wool was the basis for the textile manufacturing which took place here. New types of wool offered new possibilities for the weavers. With work by young artists, acquisitions and special projects, WOOL provides De Pont's programming with new impulses. The focus is national, regional and global. Marijke De Roover will break the ice here, and later this year we'll see Maya Watanabe and Melvin Moti.
