Tino Sehgal
This youiiyou
from 13 September
De Pont Museum will present the Dutch premiere of Tino Sehgal’s live work This youiiyou (2023) from September 13, 2025. The Berlin-based artist of German-Indian descent has become internationally renowned for his groundbreaking works.
An intimate piece
In This youiiyou, a choreography of voice, rhythm, and body language unfolds around the theme of intergenerational connection. It is among Sehgal’s most intimate pieces to date, enacted by a cast of participants who create a sensorial and emotionally charged experience for each visitor. The work is rooted in presence, interaction, and shared attention.
Sehgal, trained in both choreography and political economics, has developed a practice that radically challenges the conventions of visual art. Inspired by the legacy of conceptual art, his works are entirely dematerialized. What remains is the memory of a live encounter — direct, ephemeral, and unrepeatable.
For five months, This youiiyou will be presented daily in the museum’s largest gallery, inviting visitors into a quiet yet transformative space of embodied reflection.
Long-standing relationship
This new presentation marks the continuation of a long-standing relationship between Sehgal and director of the museum Martijn van Nieuwenhuyzen. Their collaboration began in 2003 with the presentation of twenty minutes for the twentieth Century (2000) at the Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam. Subsequent exhibitions followed at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, including the landmark year-long project A Year at the Stedelijk: Tino Sehgal (2015), featuring seventeen of Sehgal’s live works. This youiiyou builds on this shared history while opening a new chapter.
